Department of Forensic Medicine

Forensic Medical & Toxicology is an essential branch of medical science, which deals with the application of medical and allied knowledge and expertise towards administration of law. The subject of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology is spread into almost every branch of medicine and is not confined to criminal matters only.

The department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology at IMDC, led by highly erudite and dexterous faculty members, is engaged in imparting the knowledge of the subject to the students of MBBS along with ancillary sciences like Forensic deontology, Forensic Psychiatry, Forensic Otology, Forensic Biology, Forensic Ballistics and Forensic Serology etc. It is often required to invoke the help of these branches in the elucidation of various problems of Medicololegal interest.

The department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology strictly follows the course laid down by PM&DC and university for given subject. Students at IMDC are taught in the form of LGIS (large group interactive session), Tutorials and by videos and seminars. Practical work includes posting in autopsy rooms, Medico legal clinics/casualty departments etc. and experiments in biological laboratory.

For proper orientation, visits are also arranged to Forensic science labs, Psychiatric unit/jail and if possible, to the sites during the process of exhumation.
